Lavon J. Henn, 91, of Hawkeye, died Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Hawkeye with Lay Servant Mona Christie officiating. Inurnment will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 10th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated to a charity of their choice at a later date.
Lavon Jane, daughter of John and Esther (Mutschler) Peters, was born April 24, 1924 at Ackley, Iowa. She received her early education in rural schools near Ackley before her family moved to a farm near Hampton. Lavon graduated from Hampton High School in 1941. After high school she started work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Hampton and worked there for eight years. She would later work for the same company in Garner and West Union.
On August 28, 1955, she was united in marriage with Eugene Henn, at the United Methodist Church in Hampton. Lavon was very active in the United Methodist Women’s organization. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-word puzzles, spending time watching her family work on the farm, her kitties, and most recently playing solitaire.
Lavon is survived by her two children, Rob (Jean Ann) Henn and Barb (Duane) Clausen both of Hawkeye; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Nicholas, and Jeremy Henn, and Kevin Clausen; one sister, Delores Worden; and one sister-in-law, Caroline Peters.
In addition to her husband, Eugene, who died January 27, 2010, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Don Peters; and one sister-in-law, Gladys Peters.
